The Riviera
The OLM of La Riviera offers you the following advice for discovering the must-see places and activities in its region.
Chillon Castle
A thousand-year-old cultural site on the shores of Lake Geneva
Located in Veytaux near Montreux, Chillon Castle has stood on its rocky islet for almost a millennium. Made famous by Jean-Jacques Rousseau’s “New Heloise” or Lord Byron’s “The Prisoner of Chillon”, this fortress is a true treasure from the past, a must-see.
Montreux Jazz Festival
Breathtaking scenes at and on the lake
Created in 1967 by Claude Nobs, the Montreux Jazz Festival brings the shores of Lake Geneva to life every year in July. Jazz virtuosos, pop stars and legendary rock bands make up the festival's impressive list of performers. 16 days of concerts, as many free venues as ticketed stages, 250,000 festival-goers – the ingredients for a high-energy atmosphere on the quays of Montreux.
Montreux Christmas
The magic of Christmas on the shores of the lake
Ranked among the most beautiful in Europe, the Montreux Christmas Market brings an extra touch of magic every year under the palm trees of the Riviera. For a month, the banks of the lake welcome more than 170 merchants, artisans and restaurateurs set up in illuminated chalets. An enchantment for young and old, especially when Santa Claus flies over the surroundings in his sleigh!
